9 Student Nurses from SMCC Nursing Club off to Cuzco!

At Southern Maine Community College in South Portland, nine nursing students and two faculty members are planning their first humanitarian trip to Peru in August. In Peru they plan on providing medical care to the community at a clinic in the city of Cuzco. The trip is planned in collaboration with Hands Across the Americas as well as Partners for World Health. The nine nursing students are members of the Nursing Club at SMCC. The Nursing Club focuses on team building, community involvement and the promotion of healthy living. The club was founded in October of last year and has over 80 members.

The students and faculty are responsible for paying their own way; including flight, food and accommodations. The Nursing Club plans to hold multiple fund raisers to help the students and faculty afford the trip to Peru. The largest fundraising event is a:

Silent Auction and Spaghetti Dinner:
April 13, 2012 at 6:00 p.m.
The Root Cellar on Washington Ave. in Portland.
Tickets are $10 for adults, $5 for children.

All proceeds from the auction and ticket sales will go directly toward the trip.

KVCC announces the new Director of Health Information Technology Training Program: Congratulations to Martha Vrana-Bossart!

I want to tell members about and exciting training program which is grant funded and offering scholarships to clinicians who are interested in professional development for electronic health record consulting and engineer tracks. Both programs run 6 months and are currently 90% on-line classroom structure, with 1 on-site orientation day at KVCC (located in Fairfield Maine).
