The DAISY Award For Extraordinary Nurses [printed with permission of the DAISY Foundation]

To recognize the extraordinary compassionate care nurses provide at the bedside every day, The DAISY Award is given each month in over 500 hospitals and medicalfacilities around the world. Award recipients are chosen by their nurse administrators, peers, physicians, patients and families to receive: A handsomely presented Certificate, proclaiming her or him an "Extraordinary Nurse," a DAISY Award pin (Nurses love to wear pins on their I.D. badges!), and a unique, hand-carved Shona stone sculpture, entitled "A Healer's Touch." (For more about the sculpture, please click here.) Cinnabons are provided to all the nurses on the unit to celebrate the teamwork it takes to deliver great patient care and to remind all nurses how special they are.

The DAISY Award is co-sponsored in several DAISY hospitals by families and companies who are not only very community-oriented but also share The DAISY Foundation’s affection for the nursing profession. In addition to Cinnabon's generous support, sponsors include Angels Baseball Foundation, Hill-Rom, Johnson & Johnson's Campaign For Nursing's Future, NovaVine, Sam’s Club, UnitedHealthcare, U.S. Airways, Wells Fargo, and Wellington Vineyards." Other supporters include KIMBERLY-CLARK (they provide the Daisy Kleenex for the very emotional presentations), GETWELLNETWORK, and JUNIOR DRAKE.

As of February, 2010, over 6,000 nurses have received it. If you are a hospital that would be interested in establishing this turn-key, high impact recognition program for your nurses, please contact The DAISY Foundation.
